I heard about the HMV signing on Donny.com and knew I would not be able to go as work rotas had been posted and I was
working that day
So I filed it in my near miss file and forgot about it, until the Friday before when my manager asked if I would swap
shifts and move my day off to the following Monday I answer yes with a big smile on my face and started planning my trip to
London
As it was short notice I traveled alone as everyone else was at work
I started my trip on 11/15/2004 at 4.15am when I drove to Northampton to catch the 4.45am train to London, it was so
early that most of the way I was in the train carrage alone
The train arrived in London just after 6am when I caught the tube onto Oxford Street
I walked up to HMV to find the other fans queued around the side of the building
I was near the front but some fans had camped out overnight and where still in the sleeping bags when I arrived.
The que was fun and we held each others spaces while we nipped to McDonalds to get Coffee or use the Toilet as it was
November it was realy cold but we chatted and exchanged stories and E mail Addresses
We where let in to HMV about 1 hour before the signing was due to start and we waited for the show to begin
Donny arrived on the small stage set up at the rear of the store and sang three numbers from his album "Breeze on
By" which was welcomed by his fans with loud cheering and dancing
Then it was time for the signing Donny was sat at a small table on the stage and we waited for our turns at the table
I took plenty of pictures of Donny while waiting.
Once I got to the table I placed my Photograph on the table and he asked me who to sign it to I answered "Paula and
could I be really Cheeky and ask him a favour"
He laughed and asked "What favour"
"I'm a Donny Virgin and could I have a Hug as I'd waited so long to see him (32 Years)" I said
"Sure" he answered and stood up and gave me a big hug, he smelt great sandalwood / spicey I asked him "what
he smelt of as he smelt so good"
"I did not know" he answered
At that my time was up so clutching my picture I moved away chatting with other fans as I left
I spent the rest of the day walking around London on cloud nine smiling at strangers and getting my pictures developed
On reflection Donny was as good as he looks on TV and I think the great smell was just Hotel Soap and Eau De Donny
